To have a truly authentic French meal, you have to find out where the locals go and usually the meal is in a renovated farmhouse and the menu is set. You eat what they’ve made that day. There is usually very little choice, but there are often many courses and wine is I have been fortunate to have experienced this twice. The most recent time was at L’Auberge Paysanne near Cavaillon in Provence. Before that it was at “La Truie Qui Doute” in a town near Anduze in the Languedoc-Roussillon region .
