Learning a new foreign language is not always easy and today was t tough one for me. I realized that my ability to read and write French is so much better than my ability to understand. When my classmates have Dutch, African, or German accents, I sometimes sit there and don’t understand a word what they have said. Sad when I can’t even understand the instructor. I am having fun at Accent Francais. Lots of laughing and activities to keep us engaged. Am so happy I have progressed since my last evaluation back in Canada where I was at level A2.6. Am now at B1.1!!
Here’s one things we did today. (No, did NOT drink in class.)
Started my French immersion lessons at Accent Francais this morning. Before coming to France I did the online-test and this morning I did my one-on-one oral test. What a way to wake yourself up in the morning! I was then placed in a level-appropriate class with 8 other students. My classmates were from the Netherlands, Germany, Japan, Ireland, Switzerland, Africa and…..Canada. And not only was the Canadian from Toronto, but it turns out we went to the same public school! I had good intentions to run 10 km this morning; however, waking up late to a cool morning provided a good excuse to visit some Sunday markets: a brocante (antique) and farmer’s market instead. The antique selection was small but interesting. There were about two dozen vendors located at Place Royale de Peyrou which was only half a kilometer from my apartment.
First day exploring Montpellier and began at La Place de Comedie which is one of the largest pedestrian areas in Europe. Everyone seems to be out today—sunny and warm.
Finally arrived in Montpellier after a gruelling journey where both Air Canada and Air France were very diligent making certain passengers check their luggage—those who had luggage too big for carry-on. I was stopped but reorganized my luggage.
