La Conciergerie is a former prison built in the 1400s and located just west of the Ile de la Cite.  It is most well known for housing Marie Antoinette and hundreds of other prisoners during the French Revolution. Marie Antoinette was taken from her to be executed on the guillotine.

While the exterior of the building (rebuilding took place in the 1800s) is beautiful, so is the interior with two grand halls and gothic architecture.
