Visit A Local Market And Buy A Roasted Chicken

Roasted Chicken at market

I know this sounds a bit bizarre, but I am recommending this for two reasons: it is an EXPERIENCE to walk among the locals who are buying fresh produce. The displays are beautiful and the selection is varied. Some are small, others, like the one near the Bastille in Paris are quite large.

There are even a few organic markets. The lineups for certain vendors is indicative of the high-quality products that particular vendor provides. Secondly, French roasted chicken with potatoes is such a treat for lunch or dinner. Absolutely delicious. Just try it. Here’s a link to find out more about the markets.

Just noticed this post as I was looking through your 100+ best things to do in France, and it reminded me of a time we did exactly this. We were in the Luberon, in a tiny town recommended by our host. We were the only tourists in the very small local market, looking for a sandwich for lunch and finding a bbq chicken stand. Once they understood we wanted to take the chicken for a picnic immediately rather than take it home, they found us paper plates and cutlery and were very friendly and helpful. The meal was delicious, eaten in a small municipal park. Thanks for bringing back this memory 🙂

Love your BBQ chicken story. There’s nothing quite like getting a roasted chicken at a French market. That vendor was very sweet to give you plates and cutlery! The French ARE nice!
